A Rainy Cherry Blossom Proposal in Yoyogi Park
Finding the Perfect Sakura Spot
It started with a simple inquiry, but I could feel the determination behind Vincent's words. He was planning to propose to Sheena and wanted more than just a moment—a memory they could revisit forever through photographs.
He wasn't looking for the typical tourist backdrop. He wanted something intimate, a quiet corner where nature could frame their special moment. After several exchanges discussing his vision, I suggested Yoyogi Park—one of Tokyo's most beautiful natural settings, especially during cherry blossom season—putting his faith and trust in my knowledge of the city's hidden gems, I couldn't help but feel honored to be part of their story.
As the sakura began to bloom, I kept Vincent updated, sending him photos of specific locations within the park. I knew exactly what I was looking for—a secluded spot with a perfect frame of blossoms that would create that cinematic backdrop I'm known for capturing.
Embracing the Rain
I suggested meeting early—around 7 AM—when Yoyogi Park would be most serene. The morning light filtering through cherry blossoms would create that film-like quality I always aim to achieve in my work.
When the day arrived, Tokyo greeted us with light spring rain. Some might see this as unfortunate timing, but as a photographer, I know that rain brings its magic—vibrant colors and an intimacy that clear skies sometimes can't provide.
The Moment Unfolds
As Sheena and Vincent walked along the path I had mapped out for them, it was beautiful in its authenticity—Vincent led Sheena to the spot where pink blossoms created a natural canopy, raindrops occasionally falling like tiny diamonds around them.
The look on Sheena's face when Vincent dropped to one knee was everything—surprise, joy, love—all the emotions I live to capture through my lens. I captured them in photographs and through the video package Vincent had added to their session.
Preserving Memories Beyond Photographs
Vincent had made the wonderful decision to include a static video package, which allowed me to capture that pivotal moment from another perspective.
This is something I always encourage—while photographs freeze individual moments in time, video brings them to life, allowing couples to see, hear, and feel those emotions all over again.
