A Magical Proposal in Rikugien: Capturing Love Amidst Autumn Splendor

December in Tokyo is a truly magical time. The city’s parks and gardens are adorned with vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold as autumn leaves reach their peak. Among these picturesque locations, Rikugien Garden stands out as one of the most enchanting spots for a heartfelt proposal. I recently had the privilege of documenting a beautiful proposal there, and I’d love to share the story with you.

The Plan

The soon-to-be fiancé reached out to me a few weeks prior, detailing his vision for a surprise proposal in Rikugien. Knowing how crucial the setting and timing were, I arrived an hour early on the day of the proposal to scout the perfect location.

Rikugien is renowned for its serene ponds, gracefully arched bridges, and fiery autumn foliage, but I wanted to find the perfect spot—one with just the right light and a breathtaking backdrop. After exploring the garden, I found an idyllic area where the afternoon sun filtered through the vibrant maple leaves, creating a warm and romantic ambiance. I shared the exact location with him via WhatsApp, ensuring everything would go smoothly.

The Moment

As I waited at the chosen spot, my heart raced with excitement, knowing what was about to unfold. Soon, I saw the couple approaching, the soon-to-be fiancé looking slightly nervous but determined. I positioned myself discreetly, camera in hand, ready to capture the moment.

When he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him, the emotions were palpable. Her expression of surprise quickly gave way to tears of joy as she said “Yes!” It was a moment of pure magic, surrounded by the natural beauty of Rikugien’s autumn colors. I felt so honored to be a witness to such an intimate and heartfelt event.

After the Proposal

I allowed the couple a few moments to savor their newly engaged bliss before stepping forward to introduce myself. We exchanged smiles and laughter as they shared their excitement. From there, we took a leisurely stroll through the garden, stopping at several stunning locations to take more photos.
